Simple Smoke-Text

Recommended Posts

Preview of what you are making:

Step one:

Find a picture of smoke, it works better if you have thick or streamy waves of smoke instead of a thin cloud of smoke.

Step two:

Add text over the layer of smoke

Step Three:

Rasterize the text by right clicking the text and choosing "rasterize type"

Next, with the text layer selected, go to Filter > Blur > Motion Blur

Mess with the motion blur settings, you want it to look similar to this

Step Four:

With the text layer selected, go to Edit > Free Transform > and then click this button

Transform your text so it runs smoothly throughout the photo.

Finally, reduce the opacity of your text layer so it blends in smoothly. You want to still be able to view the text though!

You can mess around with this effect with anything. It works best with text or logos that are a solid color. Example, I used my server logo that was completely white with the first image in this post.
